A bit about me: What are the little things that matter?

Hey there! I'm Kirti and thanks for taking the time to read my blog. Not many people know this, but I used to blog regularly back in the day - remember when Wordpress was really new and it was all so exciting and liberating? I finally had a voice, and people were reading!  Anyway, as they say, life happened and I stopped writing/updating my blog. I won't say I regret it (regret is such a strong word), but I certainly feel that I'm now in a place in my life where I can pick up where I left off and hopefully do a better job. So here I am - older (and hopefully wiser) and I'll be writing about all the little things that inspire me in my day to day life, and allow me to be more creative, in my own way! I'll write about home decor, lifestyle, fashion, and travel. And this time, I won't give up, I promise!

So here are 5 little things that really matter to me -

1) A simple smile: It costs nothing, hardly takes any effort and yet, it has the power to heal and transform. I come across so many people every single day who just don't smile back, I wonder why! But my tip is - don't be fazed by this, you still be the first person to smile. Trust me, this little thing can change your life! If nothing, you'll be remembered as the person who always smiles (not the creepy kind, I hope!), and that's certainly not a bad thing!

2) Some 'me time': It is so so important to recharge your batteries from time to time. For me, my afternoon tea time equals 'me time'. Just 10-15 minutes of uninterrupted time with myself where I gather all my thoughts, just think about the day or sometimes I don't think about anything at all! I have a friend who's 'me time' is when she's back home from work, and has parked her car. She just takes 5 minutes for herself before entering the house, ready to face the rest of her crazy day. So whatever you choose to do, make sure you keep aside some time for yourself. Exercise, take care of yourself, just do what works for you! Remember, 'me time' doesn't always mean a visit to the spa or a mani-pedi (although that would be lovely, wouldn't it!)

3) Having a meal with the family: If you're living with your family, try and have at least one meal of the day together as a family. This is actually harder than it seems, because everyone is super busy. However, it's a great way to bond, strengthen relationships and is a proven stress reliever. Needless to say, a great opportunity to catch up on some family gossip (:D). I don't know about you guys, but I almost always make healthier food choices when the whole family is involved. So here's your chance to eat healthy and give the same values to your kids. I know my son really looks forward to dinner time with daddy and mummy, and the look on his face every evening is just pure joy!

4) Being kind, for no reason: I'm a true believer in karma - you basically get what you give. It's as simple as that. There are little things you can do for people around you - offer to babysit a friend's kid, or prepare a meal for a sick friend, or offer to help at a library or at your local school,  it can be just about anything. Do it for friends, family, even strangers (use your discretion though!). It will make you feel warm and fuzzy inside I promise you!  And these little things can make someone else's entire day!

5) Doing what I love: You may not always love what you do, but never stop doing what you love.. don't give up on your hobby just because there's no time. I think it's important to make time for what you're passionate about. We often go through life doing things that other people love like your partner, kids, parents, friends etc, and that's not a bad thing at all. But sometimes, it's OK to think about yourself, and put yourself first. I've picked up drawing again, after many years and I'm so glad I did! So pick up those paints, finish that sketch, start reading that book you've always wanted to read! It's never too late..

Finally, I'd just like to say - don't underestimate the power of little things. As Vincent Van Gogh said, 'Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.'

Thanks for reading! I hope you got to know a bit more about me and my inspiration behind this blog. I would love to know your thoughts, so please feel free to comment or contact me using the contact form. So until next time....
