My Top Three Jewellery Organisers

Hey there!

This post is for those looking for ideas to organise their jewellery, so if this is something you’re interested in, read on :)

I love jewellery (who doesn’t, right?). Statement jewellery, eclectic handmade pieces, gemstones/semi-precious stones, silver/afghani jewellery and also delicate dainty jewellery - so basically most things! In case you want to send me presents, now you know what to get :D

I’ve collected a fair amount of stuff over the years (mainly because de-cluttering jewellery is the hardest thing ever!) and have used all sorts of jewellery holders/organisers you can think of. Custom built organisers, drawer dividers/organisers, DIY jewellery organisers, jewellery trees, the funny hand that holds rings and things, tea cups, glass bowls, plates, pouches, clothes rails, hangers, you name it and I’ve used it! Some organisers work better than others and you just have to do a bit of trial and error to figure out what works best for you! Well, I’ve done all of that and today I can say that I’m finally happy with the way I’ve stored and organised all my jewellery. I don’t lose things anymore because everything is really well organised, and I also end up using a lot more stuff than I did earlier. So ‘under-utilisation’ is not a problem for me anymore. But you know what the best part is - I’m done with my weekly DIY projects where I would turn random things into jewellery holders! Hurrah!!

So, to begin with, I basically look for 2 key things in a jewellery/accessory organiser:

(1) Should be easy to store and access stuff - I hate looking for things especially when I’m in a hurry! If it’s easy, it will save me a lot of time (and energy). Which is always good!

(2) Should not look like a mess - Ummm.. this is a tough one because I somehow manage to mess up everything without much effort.

With all this in mind, I’ve chosen my top 3 jewellery organisers - they are the ones that work best for me. Everyone has different criteria and budget/space requirements, so I hope this post at least gives you some ideas and inspiration to figure out what works best for you!

1) Custom jewellery cabinet with mirror: This is by far my most favourite way of storing and organising jewellery. I love the fact that everything is in one place and I don’t need to open multiple drawers, boxes and other types of fiddly storage containers on a daily basis. Out of sight is out of mind for me, and this method of storage gives me all the available options in a single place and I can choose what I want to wear quite quickly.

It also saves me a lot of time because storing and accessing jewellery is very easy, and of course having a full length mirror is always very handy. This has a tendency to look quite messy quite quickly if you’re not careful, but I’ve been quite good in keeping things neat and tidy (so far). There’s custom storage for earrings, rings, chains, bigger necklaces, and smaller bits and bobs. If you have the long delicate chains that get entangled really easily, the best way to store them is on the little hooks. That way they don’t get messy and you don’t have to spend half a day untangling them!

Obviously, this costs more compared to other organisers, but it’s worth every penny. If I think about how much I’ve spent over the years trying out different organisers and storage units, I think this one works out much cheaper! Haha! I bought it online and the quality isn’t great, but it’s functional and I haven’t had any issue so far. If you’re a DIY enthusiast then a similar storage cabinet is fairly straightforward to create using some velvet fabric, foam, hooks, small wooden rails and a standard mirrored (or mirrorless) cabinet. So this one is my top pick!

2) Containers/boxes with compartments: This is super useful if you want easy access to jewellery and have limited items (i.e. no overflowing boxes) I actually store my everyday bits and bobs in a little storage box with compartments, and keep it in my bedside drawer. That way I can quickly grab what I need and don’t get distracted by other things in the big cabinet! Perfect for when I’m in a rush and I just want my basic accessories. You also get really fancy storage boxes these days that are lined with velvet and are specifically meant for jewellery storage. These will cost more, but you can also get inexpensive ones from any home store. For example, I got this clear box from India - nothing fancy about it but does the job!

3) Pouches/bags: I store my ‘occasional’ jewellery in little pouches or bags so they don’t clutter up the main storage cabinet. These are some of the really big chunky necklaces that I don’t wear too often or more expensive stuff that I want to keep a bit more carefully. A lot of the jewellery usually comes in it’s own bag/pouch so I always save that, never throw it! The only thing that you have to bear in mind is that it’s not easy to find stuff using this system of organising, so one tip would be to only use this for special or occasional jewellery (like I do), and don’t use it as your main system of organising.

Apart from these three organisers, I also occasionally use quirky hooks, drawer knobs and decorative bowls to store and display some shiny things, but that’s more of a one off thing when I want to make pretty jewellery part of my bedroom decor. My bedside table would typically have a little tray or bowl with some jewellery :). Just because I like to surround myself with pretty things!
