DIY clay beads garland
Hey guys!
There’s this huge trend of wooden bead garlands in decor lately. Have you seen it? There are all types of garlands on display in the most beautiful way! On coffee tables, around vases, on door handles.. They work well with most decor styles - but are very popular in farmhouse, rustic and boho styles. I’ve picked some of my favourites on the right! I have linked/referenced them so you can check them out!
So pretty right? Anyway these garlands are actually quite easy to re-create.. you basically need some beads and a piece of string :) so I decided to make a lovely clay bead garland for myself! Here’s what I used:
Air Drying clay - I used this one
Allen key/ screwdriver to make holes in the beads
String/ Twine
Scissors
Some small wooden beads from an old necklace
I had some leftover Air Drying clay from a previous project and it was just getting dry as it is, so I used it to create some not-so-perfect clay beads. They take 24 hours to dry, but once dry they are pretty sturdy.
The process is really simple and straightforward - I rolled the clay into round (ish) beads, a bit rough around the edges but I like the slightly rustic feel! Then I made holes large enough to sew the string in. I used an allen key because that was the perfect size. Once I set the beads aside to dry, I made 2 tassels with the string to add to each end of the garland. Making tassels is really easy and here is a step by step tutorial by the knitting wool store. I wanted some wooden beads at the end so I repurposed some beads from an old necklace that I wasn’t using anymore. Why buy new when you can re-use, right?
Here are some progress pics..
So that’s it! I’m so so pleased with the end result! It looks just as lovely as a shop bought garland, and it is made with love (and a lot of patience :D) There’s is really so much joy in making things from scratch - I’m definitely doing a lot more DIY projects these days. And it’s just lovely when things in your house have a story :) Here are some photos of the finished garland! So, what do you think? Would love to know your thoughts in the comments below :) Are you working on any exciting projects? I’d love to know!
