Simple and Sophisticated Bathroom Mood Board

Hey everyone!

I’m super excited to reveal my simple and sophisticated bathroom mood board! I love creating mood boards because they give me a good ‘feel’ for the space. I always design or decorate a space based on how I want to ‘feel’ in that space. That’s my starting point for any project. The ‘look’ of the space, and the decor bit comes later.

We have a small master en-suite and it’s very functional at the moment. Tbh I don’t like most things about it except the power shower :D which is amaaazing! The en-suite is definitely dated and tired and in need of a transformation. It’s a relatively small space to work with, and it’s right where the stairs are underneath, so we don’t have any options to change positions of the shower or basin or anything else! But the saving grace is that there’s a good size storage cupboard which hides all my random bathroom clutter!

My plan for the en-suite is to make it a space where I’ll feel relaxed and I can switch off from the outside world, because let’s face it - it’s the only room in the house where I can be by myself and switch off and have some peace and quiet! Plus, it’s the first place I visit every morning so it’s got to be interesting, right? :D

When it comes to bathrooms, I like modern, clean lines, no-fuss accessories and a little bit of fun! The lighting has to be amazing of course, because the best selfies are captured in bathrooms :D

Here are some of the gorgeous bathrooms (image source mentioned, with link) that have inspired my mood board:

I must have pinned hundreds of bathroom images on my Pinterest in the past couple of weeks. I love using Pinterest because you can clearly identify what style you’re naturally drawn to. For me, it was monochrome, clean lines, no contrasting grout, matte finish, splashes of colour, crittall screens, and black accessories. So I combined all of these elements together and created my very own mood board for the new improved space! Here it is!

Floor: I’m in love with these black hexagonal tiles from Topps tiles and using them with a dark grout keeps the floor simple and seamless with no contrasting grout lines standing out.

Walls: For the walls all over the bathroom I’m using some good old subway tiles in white matte finish. I like the vertical stacked pattern and I think it creates a very clean, modern look! The matte finish (I think) will add a level of sophistication and keeping the grout white for the white tiles will give a seamless finish! I ordered various tile samples in gloss and matte, and although bathroom tiles tend to have a glossy look, I’m loving the texture of matte tiles. These tiles also turned out to be quite cost effective since we’re covering the entire room!

Shower enclosure: I love Crittall style windows and doors and this was one way to incorporate that timeless element in my home, so I opted for a black grid shower enclosure. It adds a modern touch and totally fits in with my black and white scheme!

Tap, shower, mirror and other accessories: I have kept these black to tie in nicely with the general theme. Black accessories and fixtures do get a whitish residue especially in hard water areas, but we recently fit a water softening system and that has really made a huge difference. Hopefully it shouldn’t be a problem! We shall see!

Bathroom rug/mat: I want to inject some colour and personality to this space, because otherwise it can look a bit cold and stark. So I’m hoping to find a (washable) Persian inspired bathroom rug. I’ve seen loads of pics on Pinterest, but haven’t found THE one! Hopefully I’ll find one soon!

Fun artwork: For an added fun element, I’m going to add this cute print which is so relatable! ‘Don’t rush me!’ it says - especially in the morning!

So, what do you think? I’m sure there will be a few changes here and there, like I may not find the rug I want, or something else might not work, but as a starting point and a point of reference, I’m very happy with this design! I’ll keep you posted with the actual transformation! Not too long to go!
