Review: Facial at Dermalounge skincare salon

Hey guys! Yesterday I went for a facial at Dermalounge and just wanted to share my experience. This might be useful to anyone considering a facial treatment with Dermalogica products.

Dermalogica has been around for the last 25 years and I had certainly heard of the brand, although never used their products. So when I came across Dermalounge, I decided to give it a try. I'm usually quite cautious when it comes to facial treatments because I have quite sensitive skin and I like to take the tried and tested route as far as possible. Before I begin, just want to say that this isn't a review of Dermalogica products as such because I haven't used any recently. Instead I will be sharing my facial treatment experience.

Although a single facial treatment isn't enough to form a full blown opinion on a brand or product, I was certainly impressed with them on my first experience. So let's get straight to it because it's fresh in my head and I don't want to miss any details :D

On registration, I had an initial 10 minute consultation with the skin therapist who really took the time to understand my skin issues, history, routine and current products. The consultation form was fairly comprehensive but not too lengthy. Very relevant and precise without getting into too much history, if that makes sense :) . All my questions were answered and I was very happy with the knowledge of the skin therapist who explained the different skin types and effect of hormones and genetics on the skin.

After the initial consultation, I was taken to the treatment room - clean, neat, not too small and no strong fragrances around (I have quite a sensitive nose so this really matters - who else can relate to this?)

The skin therapist first checked my skin's hydration level using a machine and thankfully my skin wasn't too dehydrated. She then did a thorough face mapping analysis to deliver a 100% customised facial treatment for me. Turns out, I have normal skin, and not oily as I thought I had! That's really useful info and I realised I had been using some products that I really didn't need to!

Then followed the actual treatment involving double cleansing, exfoliation, blackhead removal, masque, toner, eye cream and moisturiser. The neck and face massage was so relaxing, I'm sure I dozed off for a bit! All in all, a very relaxing and thorough treatment. I know a facial is such a personal thing - everyone's skin is different and reacts differently to it but some things are universal in my opinion, so for what it's worth here is my feedback!

1. The staff was really friendly and polite - the appointment did not seem rushed in any way and I wasn't pressurised into making a repeat appointment or taking a package of any sort.

2. The skin therapist was very knowledgeable and explained the procedure in detail, so I knew what to expect - nothing came as a surprise

3. The salon was clean and neat and the treatment room did not feel claustrophobic.

4. None of the products had a very strong smell - as I mentioned earlier, I am very sensitive to strong smelling products (including candles!) so I didn't have any issues there.

5. None of the products went in my nose or eyes or hair. Trust me, this has happened to me multiple times before and is super annoying! So basically the skin therapist took necessary care to not let these things happen! :)

6. You know when they blow the steam at your face sometimes and it's so strong and comes at you with so much force that you can't breathe? Well, that didn't happen! There was steam, but it was very bearable! Again, this matters!

7. Post facial, my skin wasn't red or inflamed and it pretty much settled in an hour or so. This usually doesn't happen with me, so I was happy with that.

8. There was a 20% discount for first timers, which is always a good thing! I paid Dhs 395 for my facial and I also bought a starter kit for Dhs 205 to try out a few products before I buy the full size bottles. Now, I don't think this is cheap, but you know what, it's not very often that I do facials so a little bit extra is OK once in a while I suppose!

I'm going to try out these products and if I see a clear difference, I will definitely consider purchasing the full size bottles. I do wish they did free samples though. Everyone likes a free sample! Finally, I really think that the outcome of the facial has a lot to do with the skin therapist. I think I was lucky enough to get a really professional and knowledgeable therapist who took the time and interest to get to know my skin type and tailor a treatment based on that! If you want to know details of the branch/therapist, do get in touch!
