Product review: Boots Botanics Skincare
Hello beautiful people! I'm super thrilled to review these really affordable drugstore skincare products for you, from the Boots Botanics range (available at Boots). I’ve been using these products for the past 3 months and if you want to know my honest thoughts, read on!
I'm always on the lookout for natural, organic and plant based products for my skin. Now, the Boots Botanics range has been around for quite some time (over 20 years) but I only recently discovered it. I'm really not sure how I missed the pretty pink/blush packaging because I usually get drawn to beautiful packaging (and glitter and sparkles!) when it comes to makeup and beauty products. To be very honest, I also bought these products because there was a Buy 2, Get 1 free offer on these products in Boots and I couldn’t resist! Haha!
The Boots Botanics range includes moisturisers, cleansers, toners, scrubs, oils/balms and eye creams - everything you would need basically. They cater to different categories or skin needs e.g. early ageing, brightening, mature skin, hydrating etc so you can basically pick what you need. The key ingredient in all these different products is a plant based, natural extract.
Why I like this brand
Natural plant extracts - Plants have been used in skin care for centuries and can be really effective if used correctly. All their products use natural plant extracts, some of their main ingredients being hibiscus, rose hip, purple orchid etc.
Sustainably sourced - All the natural extracts and oils are sustainably sourced from around the world, creating jobs for those living in Africa (hibiscus), Chile & Eastern Europe (rose hip) to name a few. I like such initiatives and I’m happy that they are taking a more sustainable approach.
Association with Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew - This is one of my most favourite places in the UK - I could spend hours and hours in the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew. There's so much to see and so much to learn! So when a skincare brand is associated with something as big and reputable as the Royal Botanic Gardens, I automatically trust the brand. All the natural extracts used in these products are authenticated by the Botanists at Royal Botanic Gardens, and I'm pretty sure that they know what they're doing!
Affordable & good quality - When these two things come together, it's just perfect isn't it? Good quality doesn't always come with a high price you see. And as far as quality is concerned, my experience has been great so far! Also, if you really wait for a good deal, these products are often on a buy 2, get 1 free, or something similar!
I went for the 'Brightening' range because my skin was feeling a bit dull and needed a little boost. The magical ingredient in the ‘brightening’ range is Hibiscus. Hibiscus has been used for thousands of years for it’s medicinal properties. It has anti-aging properties and is used for cleansing, exfoliating and also for stimulating hair growth. It is naturally high in anti-oxidants and really helps in improving the skin tone and texture. If you have extremely sensitive skin or have an existing skin condition, it’s best to do a patch test before using any new product.
The three products I tried from this range are:
Brightening All Bright Micellar 3 in 1 Cleansing Solution (GBP 5.49/250ml) - This is really gentle on the skin and doesn’t leave any residue after cleansing. You really don’t feel like you need to wash your face with water after using this solution. I usually use the micellar solution after using a cleansing balm or cream (eg: Body shop Chamomile cleansing balm), so it removes any leftover makeup and leaves the skin feeling hydrated and clean. Even if you use this product by itself to remove makeup, I’m sure it will work beautifully because even if it’s mild, it’s really effective! They also have an Eye Makeup remover in this range in case you’re looking for something more specific.
Brightening All Bright Hydrating Day Cream SPF 15 (GBP 6.99 /50ml) - I like the texture of the cream - it’s got a lotion-like consistency similar to the Clinique Dramatically Different moisturising lotion that I absolutely love! It doesn’t feel oily on the skin, but is extremely hydrating at the same time. I also feel that it serves as a good primer and foundation slides on top of it like a dream! It definitely gives a bit of a glow to the skin. It’s quite subtle, but it’s there. An additional plus is that it has SPF. I personally still use a separate sunscreen (SPF 30 or more) but if you are looking to tick all boxes with one product, I think this could be it!
Brightening All Bright Purifying Face Scrub (GBP 5.49/75ml) - Along with natural hibiscus extract, this has sweet almond oil which is one of my favourite oils ever! Apricot seed powder and walnut shell powder provide the grainy texture for mild exfoliation. I wouldn’t use this everyday, but maybe twice a week to remove the dead skin cells and give a healthy glow to the skin. I have strictly moved away from any exfoliators that use microbeads (plastic) so this serves as a great replacement. If you’re looking for ways to make your own exfoliators/scrubs, read my post on DIY oatmeal scrubs for some inspiration!
Hope this was helpful! I can’t wait to try some more products from this range, and also from the ‘Dehydrated and Sensitive skin’ range! Let me know if you’ve tried any other products from this brand and your thoughts!
xx
